The Portuguese Sheepdog, known in its homeland as the Cão da Serra de Aires, is a herding breed with a distinctive monkey-like face and a shaggy, goat-like coat. Originating from the Serra de Aires region in southern Portugal, this breed has been a trusted companion to shepherds for centuries, valued for its intelligence, agility, and unwavering work ethic. Today, while still capable of herding, the Portuguese Sheepdog has also found a place as a devoted family companion, though its high energy and sharp mind require an owner who can provide ample physical and mental stimulation.
