The Romanian Mioritic Shepherd Dog, known in its homeland as Ciobănesc Românesc Mioritic, is a large and imposing livestock guardian breed from the Carpathian Mountains of Romania. Developed over centuries to protect flocks from predators such as wolves and bears, this breed is deeply rooted in the pastoral traditions of the region. Its name derives from the 'Miorița,' a famous Romanian ballad about shepherds, reflecting the breed's cultural significance. Today, while still used for its original purpose, the Mioritic is also gaining attention as a companion for experienced owners who appreciate its calm, devoted nature and formidable guarding instincts.
