The Boxer is a medium-to-large, short-haired breed with a distinctive square muzzle and an athletic, powerful build. Developed in Germany in the late 19th century from the now-extinct Bullenbeisser and various mastiff-type dogs, the breed was refined to be a versatile working and companion dog. Today, Boxers are known for their playful, energetic nature and their strong bond with families, though they also retain a protective instinct that makes them alert watchdogs.
